Program Overview

Engineer intelligent industries.

Master the future of smart manufacturing and connected devices with the six-month, full-time Advanced Embedded Systems, Industrial IoT, AI and Edge Computing bootcamp. Designed and led by industry experts, this intensive deep-tech program equips you with cutting-edge skills in hardware programming, real-time data processing and machine learning at the edge.

You'll master bare-metal and RTOS programming (C/C++ on ARM Cortex-M, STM32, ESP32), industrial IoT architectures (MQTT, CoAP, OPC-UA), TinyML and lightweight ML frameworks on edge hardware, and end-to-end system integration for predictive maintenance and real-time decision-making.

Learning Outcomes

Build the systems that run at the edge.

Eight capabilities across firmware, real-time systems, IoT and edge AI — from silicon to cloud.

01Firmware

Ship production firmware in C/C++

ARM Cortex, peripherals, drivers and debugging on real hardware — bare-metal and beyond.

02RTOS

Build real-time applications

FreeRTOS and Zephyr — tasks, scheduling, synchronisation and deterministic behaviour in constrained environments.

03IoT Protocols

Design connected devices

MQTT, CoAP, Modbus and BLE — the wire-level story of production IoT solutions.

04Sensors

Interface with the real world

Signal conditioning, ADC/DAC, sensor fusion and actuator control for reliable field data.

05Edge AI

Deploy TinyML at the edge

Model compression, quantisation and inference on constrained devices — Coral, Jetson, MCU-class.

06Cloud IoT

Connect devices to platforms

AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub and industrial platforms — provisioning, telemetry and OTA at scale.

07Security

Harden embedded systems

Secure boot, key storage, encrypted OTA and OT-aware defence for connected devices.

08Portfolio

Ship recruiter-ready work

A firmware project, an edge-AI demo and an IoT dashboard — three concrete pieces to show.

FAQs

Answers to the questions we hear most.

Do I need prior embedded experience to enrol?
No prior embedded experience is required. A BTech / MTech / MCA background in IT or circuit branches with the stated academic scores is sufficient — we start from microcontroller basics.
Is the program full-time or can it be done alongside a job?
The Embedded Systems, iOT & Edge Computing program is a full-time six-month immersive program on the VTU Bengaluru campus.
Do I need to bring my own hardware?
No — hardware kits (development boards, sensors, debuggers) are provided for lab use through the program.
Is placement assured?
Yes — assured placement is offered through the participating industry partners upon successful completion of coursework, capstone and the industry-mentor assessment.
How much of the program is practical vs theoretical?
About 90% of the program is hands-on — live labs on real hardware, industrial-grade use cases and a hardware-integrated capstone project.
How do I apply and what does admission look like?
Applications are made through the VSI Apply Now flow. Shortlisted candidates take an online admission assessment and an interview with the VSI faculty and industry mentor panel.
